Piece of Cake: Denim for Morgan
When Morgan mentioned this morning she was in the market for a new denim skirt, my first though was "Why?" But after thinking about it, I recalled my own denim skirt- a short, tattered square of a thing bought for a couple bucks at the Brown Elephant. I don't wear it often, but occasionally it is the perfect thing. I also regret giving up a denim pencil skirt and have fond memories of a pleated mini from college. So off to find Morgs her ideal denim- a little bit longer and work ready. First, we hit up the big guns. Out of Gap, Banana, and Old Navy, only Old Navy came through.

I love the sailor button detail, four spaced out button give it a more polished then costumed look and the flat pleats add shape, not bulk. Best of all, on sale for $19.99 at Old Navy. On Morgan's own suggestion, I checked out J.Crew.

Clean a-lines that sit like a pencil skirt and traditional denim pocket styling make it a classic. The length is a mini that is comfortable enough for work. $69.50 at J.Crew. After bad luck with Bluefly and Zappos, I headed over to Shopbop.com.

This Rag & Bone is my favorite, but also the most expensive at $220. Slightly longer then a mini with a six-button closure down the front, this skirt's color and tailoring make it easiest to wear anywhere, with anything. Just don't try it with those tacky heels in the photo.
