| « Good Morning, Upper East Siders... | Dirt Face! » |
You could make them yourself, but you won't.
Everyone is still geeking out over these denim shorts from Alexander Wang SS08.

After the geek out is finished, the follow up is usually something like: "But I could totally make them myself, $300 for torn ripped shorts, something about a thrift store, something else I had those in eighth grade, something, something, blah, blah, blah." Number One: You could not make them yourself. Therein lies the genius of the Marc Jacobs grunge collections, Chloe Sevigny, the Olsens, and all those people who made dollar bills of pre-torn denim in the 80's. "Effortlessly cool" looks are, as a rule, not effortless. Number Two: If you get jeans from the thrift store and try to recreate this the waist will be too tight, the thighs will be two slim or the thighs will be baggy and the waist will be giant. Or something. You will cut up five pairs of jeans and not wear any of them. Number Three: You may have had shorts similar to these. But if you saved everything on the off chance it might come back into style in the exact same way, you would be buried in ill-fitting denim. BUT, I agree- $300 for these?
I don't have that kind of spare cash laying around for shorts that I will trade for new shorts next summer. So I am ordering these.

The only potential problem is the slightly slimmer thighs. I will attempt to solve this by going one size bigger. Because they are junior sizes I would probably need to do this anyway, but that way they'll be slightly baggier. The color is also a little off but they are cheap cheap so should wear out easily, which in this case is a good thing. $28.50 for the Revolt Destroyed short at Alloy.com. While you are there check out other super cute, super cheap things like the striped dress, soft t-shirts, and serpent sandals, and you can come out with a couple outfits and still stay under the cost of the runway shorts.
