Weekend Update.

When I was little, my favorite thing to do was go and visit my Aunt Jo. She was very old, had skin that looked that paper, and talked in a rough voice. Her whole house felt like magic to me. Looking back I realize that the smell of adventure and ancient treasures was really cigarettes and perfume and that there is a real possibility that her stacks of her stacks of gold jewelry were not, as I believed, actual gold. It didn't matter, her stories were filled with far away places and exotic people and there was always a little item to go with the story. I love vintage for the very fact that everything already has a story. Someone wore it, someone bought it it, someone held it, someone loved it. I can imagine someone buying this crepe-y floral dress for a garden party and accessorizing with matching shoes, bag, and hat. I hacked half off it off and wore some thrifted sandals.

Nice weather makes me want to take long walks and cruise the neighborhood. Leisurely walks are perfect for digging through thrift stores. On Saturday I found two floral and one hot pink scarf, a fiesta umbrella, and a very festive orange bow tie. I am going to pin it to jackets over the chest pocket when I am feeling jaunty. The scarves, on the other hand, are for when I am feeling dapper. And the umbrella is for when I am feeling wet.

On that same trip I picked up this skirt (apron?) for $1. The total spree cost $32. It has a lovely pattern and a tulip-ish shape. I think it is a large apron, though, so I will have to sew in a few hidden buttons to keep it decent. I woke up Sunday and jumped on the bus to check out the Rogan for Target, which got great buzz. Don't bother. Half the collection looks like it could have come straight off of the Heidiwood runway (that might be the harshest criticism I have ever given). The rest is either totally unwearable (sheer dress anyone) or falls into the organic-rough-material-drawstring-pants-earthy thing. Why does eco friendly mean I have to look like I live in Portland? No, thank you. I did grab a little boys blazer. Fits like a dream- a little short everywhere, very slim fit, narrow lapels, high buttons. Want to wear it with fringe boots and hot pink neck scarf. Good finds all weekend, what did you find?
